Tyre Theory The course will start with a 3 hour theory session which will cover • Tyre history and technical introduction • Tyre markings • Tyre law • Tyre construction • Technical glossary • Tyre labelling Product • Breakdown into segments o General Use o High Performance o Ultra-High Performance o Runflat + DriveGuard o All season o Winter o Van o Electric Vehicle Tyres o Original Equipment fitments • Premium vs Budget o Features and Benefits of premium tyres • Tyre testing (TUV facility / process etc) Tyre Fitting – Theory / Practical • Health & safety in tyre fitting workshops • Wheel identification • Tyre de-mounting & re-mounting • Tyre pressure sensor awareness • Wheel balancing principles • Minor tyre repairs (BSAU159g) • Principles of wheel alignment • Multi choice assessment paper Practical assessment: • Safe vehicle working practices (inc area risk assessment) • Wheel removal • Tyre identification • Tyre deflation and demounting • Tyre repair to British Standard • Tyre re-mounting and inflation • Wheel balancing* • Wheel alignment and effect on ADAS*
Course goals and objectives
By the end of the session the delegate will have a grounding in tyre technology, tyre information and the mechanics of fitting tyres (including a practical assessment)
