This comprehensive training program is tailored to equip participants with vital first aid skills, specialized knowledge for motor vehicle workshop hazards, and mental health awareness. 1. Emergency First Aid at Work; Day One

This foundational module covers essential first aid principles and practical skills required to respond to workplace medical emergencies. Participants will gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge to act with confidence.

  • Recovery Position
    How and when to place an unconscious but breathing casualty in the recovery position.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    Hands-on training in performing effective CPR on adults.
  • Use of Defibrillators
    Practical introduction to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and their life-saving application.
  • Managing Choking
    Recognition and treatment of airway obstruction in conscious and unconscious casualties.
  • Controlling Bleeding
    Techniques to manage external bleeding and promote clotting.
  • Fractures and Suspected Spinal Injuries
    Identification and immobilisation procedures to minimise further harm.
  • Seizures
    Safe handling and support during convulsive episodes.
  • Shock
    Recognising signs and symptoms of shock and appropriate first aid responses.
  • Minor Injuries
    Treatment of cuts, grazes, bruises, and other common workplace injuries.
  • Burns and Scalds
    Immediate care procedures to minimise tissue damage.
  • Anaphylaxis
    Identifying severe allergic reactions and the correct use of adrenaline auto-injectors.
  • Fainting
    Understanding causes and providing appropriate first aid.
  • Accident Report Forms
    Correct documentation practices to support workplace safety compliance and incident analysis.

2. Motor Vehicle Workshop Specific Hazards; Day Two

This specialized module addresses unique risks and emergency responses specific to motor vehicle workshop environments, particularly in relation to modern vehicle technology.

    Understanding dangers posed by high voltage systems in hybrid and electric vehicles and safe working practices.
  • Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (EV) Specific Risks

  • Defibrillator Use in Workshop Settings
    Considerations for deploying AEDs safely in workshop environments.

3. Mental Health Awareness; Day Two

Mental health is a critical component of workplace wellbeing. This module fosters understanding, reduces stigma, and equips participants to support colleagues experiencing mental health challenges.

  • Recognising Signs and Symptoms of Mental Ill-Health
    Awareness of common indicators of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress-related conditions.
  • Understanding Mental Health and Stigma
    Exploration of societal and workplace stigma, and strategies to promote empathy and inclusion.
  • Accessing Help and Support
    Guidance on how to seek professional support and resources for individuals in crisis or ongoing need.

Course goals and objectives

Course Delivery and Assessment

  • Duration:
    • 2 Days
  • Method:  Interactive sessions combining theory, practical exercises, demonstrations, and discussions.
  • Assessment:  Candidates will be required to complete a practical demonstration of correct Defibrillator use, CPR (Special equipment used simulating Adult, Child and Infant methods), wound dressings and complete a short quiz covering all sections of the candidates learning; final competency sign-off by certified trainers.
  • Certification: Successful candidates will receive a FAIB accredited certificate recognised by HSE
