Course description
The ATA Light Vehicle Inspection Accreditation (governed by the Institute of the Motor Industry, IMI) is a practical assessment designed for experienced mechanics to prove their capability without formal academic exams.
It is the accepted DVSA entry requirement for technicians aiming to become MOT Testers for classes 3, 4, 5, and 7.
To qualify, candidates must typically have at least 3 to 4 years of hands-on automotive experience and the ability to work unsupervised.
The full assessment comprises:
Practical Assessments: Typically five 60-minute "round-robin" tasks covering brakes, emissions, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and vehicle body/corrosion inspection.
Knowledge Tests: Usually two online external assessments.

- This accreditation will give the candidate the required Level 3 qualification to go on to the MOT Tester Course (classes 4 & 7)
