Course description

This Award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair hybrid technology vehicles, but not the hybrid system itself. It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle's hybrid system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. On completing this ‘single unit’ qualification, technicians will have gained both the knowledge of high voltage hybrid technologies and an understanding of their dangers. Medical Note: Due to the strong magnetic field of motors used in hybrid technology, it is advised that candidates who are fitted with diabetic insulin pumps, pacemakers etc. may be unsuitable for this course. The course includes both theory and practical workshop sessions. COURSE CONTENT: • Identify hybrid system components and operation • Know how to work safely on hybrid and related vehicle systems • Understand the difference between HEV, PHEV, EREV, EV • Understand the different approaches to powering down the HV system used by different manufacturers • Know how to carry out maintenance and repair activities when working on hybrid vehicles

Course goals and objectives

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to: • Make a hybrid safe in order to carryout routine maintenance. • Understand the systems used by HEV and EV which are not high voltage. • Have an appreciation of the varied approach to hybrid and EV by major manufacturers • Know what safety equipment and tools need to be used.
