Course description

A logical follow on to the APEM6 Engine Management course, the new CAT and DPF course offers a detailed explanation of component function and test procedures of both the catalytic converter and the relevant O2 sensors or Lambda sensors. Given that, in principal, the DPF serves the same purpose as the CAT, the second part of the course explains how to identify and understand the function of the major diesel emission components and again how to test and diagnose faults. The course includes both theory and practical workshop sessions it also meets the requirements for technicians wishing to complete Auto Education’s “Road to Success” to obtain IMI Diagnostic Technician and Master Technician Status. COURSE CONTENT: • Describe the purpose and function of the catalytic converter. • Discuss how the catalytic converter is tested under OBD-II regulations. • Explain the method for diagnosing and testing the catalytic converter. • O2 sensor operation and testing • Identify and Describe diesel emissions components • Describe the purpose and function of DPF and SCR

Course goals and objectives

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to: • Understand the purpose and function of the DOC • Test DPF systems using scan tools and oscilloscopes • Make correct diagnosis of relevant sensors prior to activating forced regeneration • Understand the purpose and function of SCR systems (add Blue) and how to diagnose such systems
